The Victorian Women's Inquiry into Pain received more than 13,000 public submissions, contributing to calls for cultural change, public awareness, better designed health services that more effectively meet the needs of people living with pain, amongst other recommendations. This is where contextual behavioural science has a role in supporting women and people living with persistent pain. Developing psychological flexibility in the context of a medical diagnosis requires understanding the broader systemic context in which pain occurs, the language used to describe it, and the meanings individuals make about their bodies and their functioning - particularly within systems that have historically minimised women's pain experiences.
